Word of Mouse marketing
I was reading Robert Allen’s book, Multiple Streams of Internet Income, the other day and came across a clever phrase he used: word of mouse marketing. I have been thinking of this concept recently. The web facilitates easily letting people know about things. In the old days when I came across an article or website or a piece of information I wanted to share with a friend, I would have to clip the information, address and stamp an envelope and get it mailed. Sometimes I would lose the thing in a pile before I got around to sending it. Sometimes it just seemed like too much hassle.
But with the Internet and email, I am much more likely to take a brief moment to send it on to someone. Now, the key to using this in Internet Marketing is to construct a message, product or website that someone is motivated to pass on. YouTube was made popular because they made it easy to send a link to someone else when you saw a cool, funny, or silly video.
I have been writing an e-book that I plan to give away for free with great information in it that will do nothing more than increase my name recognition on the web. Of course, I will place links in the e-book with my websites and email lists for people to click on, but mainly I am doing it just to increase my “platform.” I will encourage people to pass it along to friends.
Can you think of something you could create that would go viral and be spread by “word of mouse”? If so, start working on it today.
