Using the Oprah Winfrey Show to bring traffic to your website.
In a previous post, I showed a small example of how to use Wordtracker and content-rich blog posts to bring more traffic to your website. My example was modestly successful. The post ranks #1 on google for “how to information marketing” and it brings in steady traffic to the Web Whisperers blog.
Remember though, that the post was “just” an example. The trick is to find the keywords that match your passion and expertise and use them regularly in a disciplined and strategic manner. Over time your traffic, influence, and sales will grow. We will be teaching many strategies for increasing website traffic in both the Santa Fe Information Marketing Bootcamp taught by Ryan Nagy and Bill O’Hanlon and the London Information Marketing Bootcamp, taught by Ryan Nagy and Michael Beale.
But what if you have some “inside information”? Let’s say your field or a related one is about to be featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and could potentially get 100’s of thousands of hits. What do you do? How could you use Search Engine Optimization to get some of that traffic?
I’ll give you an example that I am working with right now. There is a bodywork technique called “Rolfing” and “Structural Integration” that will be on the Oprah Winfrey show in about 5 days. Rolfing and Structural Integration are related to a type of work that I do called, “Feldenkrais.” In fact, the originators of those modalities, Ida Rolf and Moshe Feldenkrais were good friends for many years. And many practitioners cross-train in both modalities. So what?
So, when someone watches the Oprah Winfrey Show segment on Rolfing they may go to Google and search for Rolfing and related keywords. I want them to also find me and my websites. I have digital downloads that would be useful to Rolfing Practitioners and clients alike. Why not let them find Ryan Nagy, Feldenkrais Practitioner?
Here’s what I am doing to get as much of that traffic as possible:
I found the top 10 Rolfing and Structural Integraton keywords on Wordtracker.
I have created multiple blog posts that contain those keywords. I have posted several Rolfing related podcasts on my blog. I have also added Rolfing keywords to my categories and post-titles. I have created links on websites that specifically mention Rolfing and Sturctural Integration. I have asked friends and business associates to give me some new links.
The result? Too soon to tell. I only started about 24 hours ago. Two of my posts - Rolfing Information Request and Meetings with Ida Rolf? are listed #1 and #2 on google for the keywords rolfing feldenkrais.
But I do not think that many people are going to type rolf feldenkrais into google. I am still on the hunt for a first page google listing for rolf, rolfing, and structural integration (3 three top rolfing keywords).
Bye for now. I have 5 more websites to optimize for rolfing! In a week or so, I’ll let you know what Oprah and Rolfing has done for my website traffic.
**Update: 4/19/07: It is working. My rolfing/structural integration blog posts, plus another rolfing-related page that I did the SEO for, are listed in the top 10 -50 for multiple rolfing keyword combinations. And they are still rising

Hi, I just wanted to respond that my site was the first to put up the Oprah info - since I was first chosen to be the replacement but was not able to do it because I didn’t attend the Rolf Institute. I had the inside scoop. I’ve come across your blog before and wanted to ask you about website optimization techniques and see if you might be able to help. Please email me back.
